Jackson Hole Family Photographer

I am a Jackson family photographer. I craft timeless family portraits, whether you’re traveling to Jackson Hole and Grand Teton or as your local studio photographer.

Family photography is where I shine. I have been photographing people since I graduated from college in 1990 and have narrowed in on families almost exclusively. I love families, I love having a family, being a part of a family, and hanging with families. I realized that once I started treating every client like family, the photo session became much more fun and resulted in stellar images.

The portrait sessions I offer my clients are top-notch customer service from the beginning to the end, mixed with talent, skill, and local knowledge. I specialize in finished artwork for your home and custom-designed albums, (of course I do make Christmas cards, gift prints, and low-resolution digital downloads for your phones and social media) because of all of the reasons, I am not your average photographer.

Booking and Payment Process

Clients can begin by visiting my website, where they can access my rates. Once the session type is selected from our phone call, and a date and time for the photoshoot are selected, a deposit is required to secure the booking. Part of the deposit will be applied to your print order. After booking, clients will receive a Zoom Link to detail their specific needs and session objectives. This ensures all requirements are clearly understood.

The Photo Session Process

I begin with the end in mind.  My process begins with a strategic plan to ensure your vision becomes reality.  I carefully consider how and where you will use your photographs whether it be within a cherished family gallery wall, for a statement piece, or a new collection series.  Telling your story, authentically and with careful consideration, is my goal.  I offer a plethora of photographic options, from wall art to custom-created albums and portfolios, I look forward to exceeding your expectations while creating a long-standing relationship.

Step 1: Pre-Consult/Zoom Meeting

From the beginning phone call, I like to hear your needs and desires. I then explain what I offer and see if we align. After the initial call, I schedule a collaborative Zoom where we go over the concept of the session, make a design plan for what you want to do with the photos (like where to display them and how), and discuss your family, wardrobe, location, pricing, and the best time of day for the session. So, when we meet for the session, all the hard work is over.

The design plan booklet is a handbook I either send or give to you in person and has everything we discussed as well as the pricing, so you know what to expect. It has suggestions of what to wear, a checklist of things that are helpful to get ready, and everything you need to know to have a successful photo session.

Step 2: The Photo Session

After choosing the best location for your family, we meet at the scheduled time on location. I arrive 30-45 minutes before you do to make sure I am ready for the intensity of a family session. I bring from 1-3 assistants depending on how big the family is. I also bring lighting equipment to help me harness the light. I bring a candy box for the kids and puppets for them to help look my way. I recommend that you bring snacks and drinks to help the kids, as it can be hot, and usually, the sessions are before dinner, so people do get hangry. There also can be bugs so I usually bring bug spray.

Expect 1 hour at most for the session as your everyday person can only handle so much. The longer sessions occur when we have planned to make an album.

During the photo session, I go through a variety of combinations, angles, and backdrops while mixing posed and candid looks. I work tirelessly to find the beautiful light while keeping the pace moving and fun. I am fully prepared for challenging kids, difficult weather, and unenthusiastic husbands. Since I have been a professional for over 30 years, I can say I have seen it all.

Step 3: Image Review & Order Placement

A day or two after the session, I have scheduled you to come to review the photos and place your order in the studio before you leave town. Since we have done all the potential wall placement and measuring, the order gets placed in a snap. Otherwise, I only make a photo gallery if you cannot make it into the studio. The photo galleries are only online for 2 weeks and then expire and require a repost fee of $350. This helps you place your order and not drag out the ordering process.

During this meeting, I help you choose your images and decide what frames and what type of material to print on. I am there right by your side for help. I have numerous displays in my studio to give you ideas and suggestions and you can feel and touch all of them. I also can email you a YouTube studio tour to see if you are not local. Once the order is placed it can take either 2-4-6 weeks depending on what you have ordered and what time of year it is.

Terms

Deposit: Clients are required to pay the session fee deposit with a credit at the time of booking to secure their session date and time. This deposit guarantees your slot and prevents other bookings for that period. The deposit will be credited towards your final bill. Payment can be made via cash, credit cards, checks, or Venmo. If you request hair and makeup services, we would be happy to help schedule or refer you to outside salons.

Rescheduling: You may reschedule your shoot for any reason, provided you notify us 48 hours before the scheduled time, without forfeiting your deposit.

Retouching: I specialize in natural retouching aimed at enhancing your appearance while preserving your authentic look—well-rested, healthy, put-together, and blemish-free. We strive to present the best version of you, subtly making you appear a little younger without altering your essential features. Each image includes up to three rounds of retouching, although most images typically require only one. Additional retouching is available for $10-30 per round, depending on the complexity of the adjustments required.

While I endeavor to meet all client requests, our focus is on natural studio and location shoots. We do not specialize in heavy alterations or composite images. For specialized retouching needs beyond our scope, you are welcome to take the images to external service providers.

Parting Thoughts

At the end of the experience of creating a commissioned piece, you are thrilled. With all my years of experience, local knowledge, skills, desire, and passion to make stunning images…you are so happy you decided to work with me. And then you come back year after year or fly me to your location of choice ☺

“The end result is a glowing, poignant portrait adorning a wall in your home. For me, the print is the creation, the purpose, and the result of my endeavor.”

Contact

I had been selling my images since I was 15. By the time I was 19 I thought I was pretty good. I got hired on a part time basis to carry stuff for a photographer. So in a sense all I was, was very cheap labor to carry stuff, my ability with a camera was incidental.
