Jackson Hole is a stunning town to live in and visit.  No matter what time of year, this landscape makes for AMAZING Images.  Knowing how to work with the light, the angles, and the locations, please be assured that while working with me, I can solve the challenge of almost anything that arises or might slow you down because it seems too hard, too cold, or too hurried.  I got your back! With a tiny bit of planning on your wardrobe when you come to visit Jackson, together, we can create an image that will last a lifetime.

So, this is what I run into regularly: families come to visit Jackson Hole, and they have to get it done despite the weather and their schedules.  I can rescue you!  I have been working in this exact situation for 30 years, and I love the challenge of it! 

Finding the right location is key for making stunning portraits.  Here in Grand Teton National Park, I have been scouting locations for 30 years.  With this client, she wanted a quiet, undisturbed location away from tourists and I knew exactly where to go.

Styling is also essential.  Sometimes we just want a cool image but don't know how to create it.  I have been bringing visions to life for over 30 years.  The client and I worked closely to create the vision she had.  We planned the day, the time, the outfits, the vibe and the props, what a fun process.

It's hard to get the feeling you need when the weather is not working with you, I bring assistants to help step up the image....helping with lighting,  with making sure the scarfes fly in the wind and all the tiny details that elevate an image.  When working with me, I think it's very worth it to bring along 2-3 assistants depending on the vision.

We see these images in magazines and only wish we could be in the photo and yes you can! I got your back and will do the nessesary things to get you prepped, looking and feeling fantastic to create an image worthy of being displayed at your home and to share with friends and family.  We all need to have our moment in the spotlight!

In the end, the photos came out and I got to make these incredible memories for this family – and now I have a special story of my own.

This family decided to purchase a custom album, which Flo designed with over 60 images. Albums are one of the best ways to enjoy memories and capture a family’s story. From big smiles and high-energy candids to serious portraits and gorgeous family vignettes, albums show off the dynamic nature of parents, kids, and extended family.

The Ballard family lives in Jackson and has been smiling for Flo’s camera for just shy of a decade. Here are a few of our favorite portraits from those nine years!

As you can see, the muted pastels and earth tones all compliment one another in addition to the skin tones of the subjects. The shoe choices are perfect, because the sneakers are not too loud, and the cowboy boots fit the western background. The jewelry chosen by the two women is beautiful, simple, and classy. Lastly, all of the subjects are nicely groomed. All of this together makes for a cohesive image that is easy on the eyes and enables the viewer to focus on the smiling faces and the breathtaking background.

Families still wanted their photographs taken in the mountains, high school seniors needed portraits, and businesses sought out Flo to create advertisements.  

The Cardoza family is pictured in the following sequence.  This family was personable and so much fun to work with.  Flo produced several wall portraits for them, which the Cardozas made into a living room collage.  Oh, how awesome attitudes, beautiful light, and perfect weather can weave magic into a photographer’s world and a family’s life.  Flo was grateful they trusted her to create beautiful images, as it allowed for a natural and dynamic shoot. Portrait photography is so focused on the person that Flo always finds ways to make her subjects shine from the picture, even if it is something as straight forward as a headshot or business photo. Due to her many years of experience with shooting men and women in the corporate world, she has found the perfect formula to nailing her photos of them every time, while also making a beautiful image in the process.

When Rachael’s mom suggested they get Rachael in a little more glam for some portraits with her horse, Flo was happy to oblige and to create some art!

There was also the need for some portraits that simply captured Rachael–Flo managed to find some beautiful backlight that made for some really elegant and striking photos.

It’s so special to have senior portraits taken that are true to the person and what they love. It was such a joy to get to work with Rachael and her passion for horses–there’s nothing better than being able to create art with things that are held so dear to others.

Working with a client repeatedly is something Flo treasures because it truly allows her to pursue creating the perfect image for the family in new locations, with new family members, and with new inspiration as her work changes and improves. The Childress family are so fun to be around and there are so many fond memories with them after working with them over the years, that Flo always remarks at how it feels like she is taking pictures for her own family, and is always willing to go above and beyond for them as they are so near and dear to her heart.

Your photos always turn out so much more personal when there is a relationship with your photographer who knows you and your family best. Flo prides herself on having so many locals of JH and now around the nation who value her work and who she knows just how to please with her portraits.

This is one of my favorite times to shoot family portraits and high school senior portraits! Really almost any background works if you get great light.  I have always prided myself on finding the most stunning light and using it to to its fullest, making people feel comfortable and beautiful.

The photoshoot below is with a high school senior in Jackson Hole that wanted the mountains in the background and we were able to use both natural and added light along with the fall beauty to really make this photoshoot work!

It’s always so fun to see generations captured through portraits as well! When Grandma and Grandpa were holding their little grandbaby, he lit up and gave Flo the best little laughs for photos!

Using a reflector to compliment the backlight, the possibilities are endless with creating a striking photo that puts the subject at the center. Flo finds that having a natural light source for outdoor portraits is usually the strongest way to highlight her clients, especially when working with individuals instead of large groups. The light you see her is provided mainly from the sunset that was occurring behind the subject, and you can see the light working with her skin tones to add some really soft colors and highlights.

Normally, when shooting a subject who is standing directly in front of the light source, a photographer runs the risk of creating a silhouette and making the subject too dark. Flo, through her many years of working with backlight, has learned that using a reflector beneath the face of her subjects can make the face and the eyes pop with the same light that is coming in from behind them, and otherwise filling in the darkest parts of the image with that same even, balanced glow.

The learning never ends in photography! Flo finds new techniques to apply to her methods every day.

As a photographer, seeing the summer go is a little sad for Flo, because the weather becomes a bit of a challenge when working with clients as the threat of snow comes closer! BUT the ending of the summer season also opens up some amazing opportunities of the fall–portraits in the beautiful chilly weather, with lots of colorful leaves, and a whole different and equally as beautiful vibe.

Jackson Hole hardly ever disappoints! Flo is grateful for another fantastic summer with many clients, both returning and new.

The Mettam family had two of the cutest little twin boys who were so full of energy and fun that they were wiggling all over the place for their photos! Luckily, they were easily persuaded to smile and pose for photos when the puppets came out and helped them stand still and focus on the camera! It’s so important for everyone to feel comfortable during and photo session, including the littles.

It takes a lot of jokes, funny words, and candy to make taking portraits of children a great success, and Austin and Mason did so well once things got rolling!

And, of course, you’ve always gotta have a little fun when working with kiddos!

There’s something about all the gorgeous light that Jackson has had this summer that has made it so special to shoot in. Golden hour and all of its glory usually allows for some magical photos, and when you get portraits taken in the afternoon sunshine, it really can make everything so natural and soft.

Before the shoot is over, Flo always likes to get a few photos of the awesome parents who raise up their kiddos! It’s always so good to get portraits taken with your loved one that preserve the beauty of the moment and the joy of the relationship!

There’s always something to be learned in a craft such as photography that requires so much attention to detail. Flo has learned through her years of experience that she is able to scout out the perfect settings for each and every one of her clients’ stunning portraits. There’s something to be said about a photographer who goes the extra mile when choosing a location for her customers–Flo knows all the in’s and out’s and always ends up finding more and more ways to perfect her craft while making beautiful art for her clients’ walls.

Being such a well known photographer in the Jackson area, Flo works hard to make sure that she is always pushing herself to be the best that she can be in both her photos and her approach to her sessions. When the Stamos family wanted their portraits taken up on Spring Creek one such summer day when the dark clouds were gathering, Flo waited patiently until the last second to see if she would have to call it off. At the first sign of a break, she called the family and said “let’s go!” and away they went. The storm, even though daunting the whole shoot, made for some amazing backdrops for the family, and there was no shortage of dramatic beauty up on the hill for them to pose with!

Flo loves taking clients up towards Spring Creek because of the stunning backdrops. As a photographer, Flo knows that the more angles and looks she can provide for a client, the better, and she has always had huge success at Spring Creek! With her years of experience and talent, she knows how to work the hill in her favor and make something gorgeous.

Rendevous Park, located just off the highway heading towards Teton Village, is a wonderful spot that has interesting backdrops of all sorts that are complimentary to every family that Flo has taken there in the past. With water, views of the Tetons, scenic trees, and lots of rocks (pictured!!) Flo has managed to always make something truly beautiful when she takes portraits at R park. She is grateful for the opportunity to have worked with the Ballard family for so long, and she is looking forward to the hunt for a new location next summer!

Flo always adores portraits that focus in heavily on the eyes. She believes that the eyes convey stories, real emotions, and that they have the undeniable ability to connect you to the portrait in a way that other photos cannot. In her work, she strives to tell stories through the people she shoots, and by highlighting the importance of the eyes she is able to bring her work to life.

The Waggoner family, when contacting Flo about updating their family photos, asked for a place that was dramatic and had a stunning environment. Flo knew Mormon Row was just the place! She counted on the hot-and-cold summer weather of Jackson to provide some stunning clouds for the backdrop, and they picked a date to get some beautiful portraits. As you can see, they turned out just beautifully!

Mormon row can often be overrun by tourists on a summer day, and Flo has battled that for years. She, however, has a special spot where she takes her clients that always seems peaceful and tourist-free, and it’s always been such a favorite of the families she has gotten to take care of over the years. Booking with your local professional photographer of 25 years surely has many perks!

In this group of 11 people, Flo always looks for clever ways to frame the entire group in the environment that she is shooting them in. For instance, looking at the fence, Flo saw a natural structure that made a perfect window for the family to get comfortable in and that is extremely complimentary to their wishes of getting some Jackson-esque photos taken. Then, Flo takes a good look at the order of the family–grandparents usually always take the center, and the family can fill in around them. By balancing the colors in everyone’s outfits, and also making sure that everyone feels like what they are doing is normal and comfortable for them, Flo can get a relaxed portrait that ends up being just what the family wanted, and something that she can be very happy with and go home feeling great about having produced such stellar captures.

Flo is no stranger to photographing dancers, and using her many years of experience and her manipulation of light, she has created a gorgeous photojournalism-style portrait collage for Tanner, a young local dancer who is currently on his way to dancing with a professional ballet company and who has been studying his craft his whole life.

Flo captured Tanner in both her studio and out in the plains of the Grand Teton National Park, giving him a variety of photos to add to her resume and to both stun and astound with the contrasting settings which allowed for such striking portraits.

Flo has been in such a great season of pushing herself to stay creative and fresh with her work, and photos like these that leap out at the viewer and are considered more art than photo are the reason why she loves photography so. If she can make a portrait that grips her viewers and one that tells a story, it is always seen as a huge victory in her book.

Anabel (pictured) was in the studio playing with some prop flowers when Flo had her pause as she snagged her camera, and in a few short moments, magic was happening behind the lens. As you can see, a striking portrait came from the bit of time where Flo was just able to breathe, to take her time, and to have a little fun while shooting where there was no pressure and she was allowed to just simply do her thing.

Through the use of light manipulation, Flo created an entire environment for her shoot that makes strong portraits amid the grasses of the plains.

It’s not hard to see that Flo had a lot of fun shooting this, and it easily became one of her favorite independent projects she’s done in a long time. Since she has so many years of experience shooting children, this task was something she felt she absolutely nailed, and it’s clear in the photos that she did!

Flo loves working with Stio because not only do they give back to the community through their products, but they also are a growing company that benefits her business more and more as the years go by. Photographing their gear is always a treat because it’s truly some of the best-made clothing on the market in JH, and the environment when working with Stio is always one full of kind people with lots of creative energy to work with.

Commercial work is something that Flo is no stranger to, and she values the companies that she has had the opportunity to work with over the years as a photographer in the Jackson area. Whether it’s startups, larger companies, private businesses, banks, bakeries, etc., Flo has found that the people she has met have paved a way to making more connections with the locals of JH and for making more business for herself and her work.

Having children in the arts, Flo is happy to be working with an organization as impactful and meaningful as the Arts Association. Not only do they offer numerous classes for all ages at the JH Center for The Arts (pottery, photography, woodshop, dance, theatre, painting, etc.), but they also do many events and put on galas for the whole town to enjoy and to bring the community together.

“Supporting non-profits has always been an important part of my life and business model. Creating images and donating a portion of my earnings is the best way for me to give back to organizations I care about. I am drawn to the Art Association because portrait photography is an art form itself. My daughter finds great joy in the after-school programs, classes, and camps. She has truly grown over the years. The instructors are always so pleasant and patient with the kids. The Art Association is a happy place for our family and I want to do my part to ensure the longevity of the organization.”

The “before” of the studio! Big things are coming!!

Such an exciting time for Flo! Her studio is one of the main faucets of her business and she is thrilled to finally be giving it some TLC as she and Matt work hard to make big changes for the better of her entire biz.

When the Thompson’s (vacationing from Charleston) came to Flo and asked for a May family session at Mormon Row, Flo was happy to get them in the schedule. The day came with blue skies and things were going swimmingly…until the rain clouds started to form in the afternoon a few hours before the shoot.

After rendezvousing at Mormon Row and piling into the Thompson’s car to escape the downpour that met them there, Flo and the family waited it out for 45 minutes, expecting to have to cancel the session altogether if the weather didn’t improve.

After a bit of time, the clouds broke, and the rain ceased enough for Flo and the Thompson’s to run to location and start shooting! Determination goes a long way here in Jackson!

The portraits Flo got were, as always, beautiful and true to the heart of Jackson Hole. The weather wasn’t going to ruin this family’s session, and all it took was a bit of patience, which led to some striking photos.

Mormon Row is a favorite spot of many families for pictures, and Flo knows the location so well that she has it down to a formula. Taking photos there is something she specializes in, and she knows all the best spots to get the perfect photos for her clients.

Spring has sprung for photo sessions! Flo is getting busier by the day!

Edie bowed over her shoes like a swan on a lake and made for some truly awestriking images.

Sydney (model) was a perfect way for Flo to keep her creative juices flowing before she pounds the pavement over the summer. Doing simple studio shoots such as this one are a very personal experience for Flo, and they can help her stay motivated and artsy during the downtime; even more so, they remind her why she loves to create portraits in the first place. Getting to take time to simple create without a deadline and without a real purpose can oftentimes yield the greatest results as there is a freedom to just do.

Reed came to Flo to have his pictures taken a month before graduation, and Flo was excited to squeeze him in so that they could get out into nature and get some photos that reflected Reed’s love of his hometown, Jackson. What neither of them expected, however, was a huge rainstorm that occurred shortly before they were going to leave to take Reed’s portraits. Stuck in the studio and with the clock ticking towards graduation day, Flo drew from her expertise and her surrounding resources to get Reed in some places around her studio that still leant themselves to being strong backdrops.

As you can see, even with limited options, Flo managed to create some handsome portraits of Reed that make him look like the grown-up he is becoming, and it’s easy to see why both Reed and his parents were thrilled with the results, despite the setback of the weather.

Over 25 years of photography experience will get you far, and for Flo, it helped her keep a cool head and draw from her resources to stick to her craft and to end up making some beautiful portraits for Reed.

As headshots are becoming a particularly popular demand in the new year, Flo has had time to get up-close and personal with quite a few of the local businesses here in town and to photograph them for a myriad of different things. Having been photographing in Jackson for 25+ years, it’s a real treat for Flo to be able to give back and pour into the community with her art and to make connections with them that continue to grow and thrive over the years. Pictured here are just a few of the fantastic workers behind the hands and feet of Jackson Hole that make this awesome city keep rolling forward towards change and excellent values.

Pictured here is Joe Amdor, the Senior Private Banker at the Well’s Fargo branch in Jackson, and here we see him well lit in his work environment with a background that is a clear depiction of his line of work while also giving him a relaxed and open feel within his professional headshot. Flo lived in the Bay Area for some of her career, and while she was there, she specialized in traveling the city and taking portraits of the businessmen and businesswomen of San Fransisco. This experience she has allows her to have total control of any professional environment where she is required to make a specific product for the working teams of Jackson when they require commercial work done, and she is no stranger to taking businesses up a notch through her excellent grasp and execution of business photography.

Take this scenario for example: it is a beautiful day in Maui, and a family with young kids is getting their portraits taken by Flo. Amid all the fun and chaos of wrangling ten people into a well-composed photo, two of the youngest children are put on the grass near some bushes to get a cute picture of them as siblings. Any ordinary Hawaii snapshot would include the following: bright sunshine, vibrant colors; all things that would show off the tropical surroundings. Flo, seeing a moment occurring between the kids, took the photo, looked at it, and saw an opportunity to do more than just the status quo of any other island photographer. Although her folders are filled with all the wonderful factors that Hawaii has to offer to photographers, when editing this photo in particular, she was able to make something that felt more like an art piece than just your regular shot. Through the use of subtle sepia and utilizing the textures and the light surrounding the kids, Flo took this portrait and made it speak to its viewer in a way that wouldn’t have been conveyed if the process hadn’t of been slowed down and viewed from an artist’s perspective. This photo would be easy to overlook in the editing queue if not seen as a chance to take it above and beyond what it offers at its surface. Pictured here is a prime example of how a professional photographer like Flo can really alter your photo experience and deliver not only stunning images of your family, but also incredible moments that can draw a viewer in and make them say, “now THAT is a gorgeous portrait”.

Hawaii, although known for its gorgeous beaches, golden sunlight, and good vibes, always proves to be a worthy challenge for any photographer who isn’t local to the islands. There are so many factors to the environment there which, if you aren’t there living and shooting them every day, can make a photoshoot a bit of an adventure for both the clients and the photographer. Equipped with her trusty gear, Flo battled some of those factors such as gusts of wind that came off the ocean, constantly-changing natural light, and lots of tourists in the background of her photos! Despite the odds, Flo managed to totally take charge of the sessions and to trust her skills and her creativity, making the process of finding the “perfect” spots to photograph much less of a burden and more of a fun learning experience. The photos, as you’re probably able to guess, came out beautifully, and her clients were so pleased with the casual, warm feeling they evoked when Flo was finished with them.

After a glorious two weeks on the islands, Flo returned home rejuvenated and ready to gear up for the summer! With the phone ringing every day and the inbox filling up, she is ready and excited to make more magic out in the beloved scenery of Jackson.

After a wonderful Spring Break in Hawaii where she had to opportunity to photograph a few family sessions for some Jackson locals (photos to come soon!), Flo is well rested and gearing up for another busy summer with FMP! Flo was given the rare and exciting opportunity to capture the elegant art of ballet when Sarah, the pre-professional ballerina from Florida, came to town in hopes of encapsulating her poised craft out in the rugged wilderness of Wyoming. As the light continues to change with the winter months dwindling to an end, it proved a fun challenge to find the perfect locations for Sarah to dance; all without sinking too far into the deep snow when up on pointe! With the traditionalism of fine portraiture paired alongside the artistic expression of ballet, the photos Flo was able to capture are a stunning display of contrast as a graceful swan delicately dances through the wondrous display of Jackson in the winter. The sunset made for a gorgeous backdrop as the soft light allowed for some truly excellent photography.

It’s so fantastic when two trades can come together to create something beautiful. As the spring thaw gets closer and closer in Jackson, it’s a treat for Flo to be able to take on something as fun as this shoot to simply enjoy being creative and different in her approach while still staying true to her love of a clean and striking portrait.
